The word cabochon is commonly used to describe stones and cameos that are flat on the back and domed (or convex) on the front. There are many ways to set cabochons and, in this Beading Lesson, we'll use a unique beadweaving technique to create a cameo pendant.

Beaded bezels add a handmade touch to jewelry projects and make it easy to incorporate cabochons into beaded jewelry designs. They can be as simple as small beads stitched onto a fabric or as complex as creating your own entirely beaded setting.

Begin with a basic ladder stitch, and then add rows as shown in the animated Bead Master illustrations to complete the beaded bezel. Working in the round can be trickier than working on a straight pattern, so once you have one side of the cameo ready, secure the beadwork to your work surface before starting on the other side.

Please note: Complete instructions for the Noble Cameo Necklace are available on the Bead Master™ DIY Collection 01 CD/DVD or in the Noble Cameo Necklace Bead Master Kit. Bead Master is a revolutionary computer-based teaching aid created with interactive flash technology makes it fun and easy to create difficult-looking stringing designs. The animated on-screen instructions feature play, pause, rewind and fast-forward controls to allow you to work at your own pace. PC requirements for CD: Windows 2000 (or later), minimum RAM of 64MB, 500MB of free space on hard drive. DVD requires a DVD player. Bead Master is an exclusive Beadalon product.
