Whether your look is earthy and organic or uptown chic, acrylic components make it easy to create stylish jewelry on a budget.  In this Beading Lesson, we’ll show you some fun ways to incorporate this trendy look into your own distinctive style.

Start out with a trip to your local discount store and take a look at all the inexpensive parts you can find. Geometric components, chain and focals are widely available as readymade fashion accessories. The fun part comes when you get home and take everything apart!

Many acrylic jewelry designs use jump rings as the connections. Remember, to open jump rings, always turn one part of the ring to the side, like opening a door on its hinges. Never pull the ends directly apart or the ring will lose its shape. You can use two pairs of chain nose pliers or a pair of pliers and a jump ring tool to make the process easier.

By combining your new acrylic components with metallic chain, beading wire and other quality stringing materials and findings, you can create upscale designs that suit your style.

  • Use a length of acrylic chain as the foundation for a charm necklace. Gold-plated steel chain on each side picks up the metallic accents in the focal section and adds weight and value to the design.
  • Combine geometric acrylic rings with metal links and chain for a look that’s sophisticated with a trendy edge.
  • Bring the eighties look into the new millennium by layering metal charms on top of large acrylic pendants. An asymmetrical design, geometric rings, glass beads, and chain add to the artsy, assemblage effect.
  • Make an earring mash-up by disassembling several pairs of inexpensive earrings and then using them to create an eye-catching necklace focal section.
