How Good Organization Aids Design - Elizabeth Ward

Do you find that you use the same old color combinations over and over when making jewelry?  If you’d like to experiment with some new palettes, here are some tips to inspire you.  First, grab an image of a color wheel online or buy one in a local craft store.   Using the rainbow-like wheel, you can easily spot some great new color combinations.  The simplest type of color scheme is called Monochromatic, and features a variety of shades and tints of just one hue.  A slightly more daring combination would be the use of Analogous colors, selecting three or more colors that lie next to each other on the wheel.  An example of this would be yellow, yellow orange and yellow green, resulting in a citrus inspired, bright piece of jewelry.  Finally, you could go for a very high-contrast color combination by employing a Complementary color scheme, choosing colors that lie opposite each other on the wheel.  Finally, take a look at images of the natural world or great works of art to see many unexpected and lovely color combinations that you might use in your own work.
