Blanket Stitch Leather Cuff
by Katie Hacker

Gemstone rondelles are easy to stitch and make perfect embellishments for leather cuff bracelets. Choose your favorite color and get ready to rock!

Materials & Tools:
22 dyed imperial jasper 8mm rondelles from bead gallery®
33 mixed metal 4mm rounds from bead gallery®
black Wildfire beading thread and needle by Beadalon
adjustable leather cuff by Leather Cord USA
66 pewter beads and snap cover by TierraCast
E6000 adhesive and jeweler's cement

Tip: The blanket stitch is necessary for this design because it prevents the rows of beads from moving too much and causing abrasion on the thread. You could use wire to create a similar effect or you could use peyote stitch to anchor the beads together on the front of the cuff.

Instructions:

  1. Cut a 3-yard length of beading thread.
  2. Thread the needle and pass through a 4mm bead, rondelle, 4mm bead, rondelle, 4mm bead.
  3. Wrap the ends of the thread to the back of the cuff and tie them in a knot.
  4. Pass the needle through the beads again.
  5. To start the next row, pass the needle under the top of the last row along the edge of the cuff, then pass through six pewter beads.
  6. Wrap the thread around the cuff and pass through the pewter beads again.
  7. Repeat this pattern, making a blanket stitch at one end of each row and alternating between rondelle/4mm rows and pewter bead rows.
  8. When you reach the end of the bracelet, tie the thread in a knot on the back of the cuff.
  9. Add a drop of jeweler's cement to both knots on the bracelet; let it dry and cut off any extra thread.
  10. Use E6000 to attach a snap cover to the snap.
