When using stretchy cord to make jewelry, it’s important to choose the right style for your project.

Elasticity is a single strand stretchy beading cord that’s available in a variety of colors including clear, black, pink, green, blue and purple. Use it to make stretch bracelets, hairbands and illusion designs.

Elasticity is available in .5mm, .8mm and 1mm. Choose the diameter of the cord based on the bead hole size and the purpose of the design. The smallest diameter is best for lightweight beads. Use the larger diameters for designs that will receive a lot of wear and tear. The main difference between .8mm and 1mm is the flexibility.

Elonga is a super-soft, stretchy fibrous thread. Use it to make woven bracelets or other designs when stretchy flexibility and drape are the most important factors. Since Elonga is made of several strands bonded together, it’s stronger, softer and more elastic than most other stretchy cords.

Elonga is available in white and comes in three diameters: .3mm, .7mm and 1mm.

To make a stretchy bracelet, cut a 10” length of cord off of the spool. Place a small piece of tape over the end of the cord to prevent the beads from sliding off the end. String all of the beads, then tie the cord in a surgeon’s knot. A surgeon’s knot is similar to a square knot but you place the cord end through the loop twice. Place a drop of GS Hypo Cement on the knot. Let it dry, then cut off any extra cord. If possible, tuck the knot inside the nearest bead for extra security.
