This lovely shell design looks more complicated than it is. The foundation of the necklace is four 36” strands of cording, knotted with shells. The accent in the piece comes from four 20” strands of gemstones.

Instructions:

1. Cut four 80” pieces of Brown twine. (This seems like a lot of length, but the knots will shorten it up to a nice finished length of 36”.)

2. Pick up one strand and half of the clasp. Tie a Lark’s head knot with the strand, attaching it to the clasp; make the knot so one end of the strand is 8”. The longer end will be where you’ll string the shells onto.

3. Add a twisted beading needle to the end of the longer length of twine, and string on one shell. Tie an overhand knot ½” from the clasp so the shell is between the clasp and the knot. If the shell slips over the knot, begin another overhand knot. Leave the circle open, put the awl into the circle and slide the awl to the position where the knot should be tightened. Slip the awl out and tighten the twine, making a double knot.

4. Continue adding shells, placing a knot every ½”, until you reach 36”. Tie another Lark’s head knot to the other end of the clasp.
5. With the extra ends of twine, string and knot between 4 shells and one Golden Lace Agate Bead. Cut the twine after the last knot.
6. Repeat Steps 3 -5 three more times.
7. Cut four 38” pieces of brown twine.
8. Attach the first thread to one end of the clasp with a Lark’s head knot. Add a beading needle to the end and string beads in the following order:
· Amazonite rondelle
· 4mm gold-filled round bead
· Wooden agate bead
· 4mm gold-filled round bead

9. Continue with this pattern until you have strung 18”, then string a Botswana agate. Repeat the pattern two more times; at the end, attach a sesame jasper teardrop bead, stringing the twine back through the last bead.
10. Using the left over twine, string and place knots between four Mother-of-Pearl shells and one ocean jasper round bead. Knot and cut off the extra twine.
11. For the second gemstone strand, tie a Lark’s head knot to the other clasp end and bead the configuration in Step 8. Once you’ve strung 18”, string through the Botswana agate in the first gemstone strand and continue the pattern. At the end attach an ocean jasper teardrop, then string the twine back through the last bead. Using the left over twine, string and place a knot between four Mother-of-Pearl shells and one ocean jasper round bead. Knot and cut off the extra twine.
12. Repeat Steps 8-11, attaching two more gemstone strands, with the only difference being, string 20” of beads before passing through the Botswana agate.
